My Zombie Dog Zane and Kev versus Everything Book 1 edition by Charmaine Clancy Children eBooks
I'm a sucker for dog stories, but I am NOT a zombie fan. I doubt I would have tried this book if I hadn't "met" Charmaine Clancy online, where she charmed me with her humor and her progress reports on this project. The cover was the last ... nail in my coffin? I knew I HAD TO HAVE THIS BOOK.I wasn't sorry. It's a quick read, and sheer fun all the way through. Zane is a believable youngster -- in fact, all the characters ring true, even the zombie dog.
Although this is a YA book, I'm a grandmother and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I'm going to take my eReader to my mother's house and read this to her. I love it when she snorts raspberry tea out her nose.

My Zombie Dog Zane and Kev versus Everything Book 1 edition by Charmaine Clancy Children eBooks Reviews
I downloaded this book because it was free...I was not expecting what I got! This was an awesome story! I thought it was gonna be a cheesy zombie read but it was really good! It was very humorous and entertaining with a simple plot that kept me hooked from begining to end! Genius!
"My Zombie Dog" was a fun read. (AWESOME COVER!) I enjoyed getting to know Zane, the main character, and his family and friends, from his annoying mom (I feel like I'm betraying my fellow moms, here, but geeez, quelle annoying la femme!), to his adorable sister, Elise, to his sailor-like swearing BFF, Kev, and finally the clever gal Zane crushes on, Molly. Yikes, I almost forgot about Granny! It's a fun cast of characters, and of course, we mustn't leave out Fluffy. I mean, Fossil, the zombie dog who started it all. (I'd love to know Fossil's backstory/origins of zombie-ness.) Zane begins as a normal 14-year-old, with normal teenage dreams, and ends up saving the day. Well, he helps. He also grows up a bit in this amusing, fast-paced story, and learns to appreciate the birthday gift that started off oh, so wrong. Recommended for those who dig whimsically, light-hearted horror.
This is a pretty fast paced amusing book mainly geared towards tweens. The entire book takes place over a couple of days. You follow Zane who really wants a dog for his birthday. He gets one, but it's not the type of dog he's looking for. It's a scraggly rat looking thing that promptly keels over and dies in the driveway right after his mom brings it home.
They bury the poor little thing, only for Zane to find him on his bed the next day. He smells and looks horrible and no amount of bathing or perfume can cover up the offending stench. Then the dog goes around biting people who suddenly turn slugging and start asking for brains, oh and congregating in Zane's backyard. Can Zane find a cure? You will have to read to find out, but I do find it highly amusing that he attempts to Google the answer.
This book had me chuckling as well as rolling my eyes at times. I'm highly amused that Zane loves reading The Walking Dead graphic novels.
I can definitely see younger boys and girls enjoying this shorter book. Oh, and the occasional adult too, as I was amused. I might even read it to my oldest at night before bed. I think she will get a kick out of it.
Charmaine Clancy's My Zombie Dog, completely captured my attention. I almost couldn't put it down, even when the food was burning in the oven. Just kidding! Seriously, this is a riveting story!
The typical audience for this novel is tweens and teens. However, even adults can get absorbed and lost into this twisting, fast-paced tale. The language is simple, and Clancy really gets into the head of her 14 year old main character, Zane. He has the typical tone of voice, language and common issues of any teen. Clancy demonstrates her understanding of the youth and captures it in this story; her ability to fully live the teen character is rarely found among writers to such an extent. She amazed me with her characterizations of all of her main characters.
What's not to love? We have 14 year old Zane who is trying to enjoy his birthday, but it is turning into a miserable one. We have his mother who is bitter about her husband leaving her two months before. We have a Granny that visits them once a month, but has practically lost most of her memory and thinks their home is a restaurant or some other place. His sweet, innocent little sister Elise melts our hearts. And his best friend Kev is a bit strange; the kind of strange that one day might land him on death row. And then there is the crush Zane has on Molly who is a bright girl with a dog, too. And the central character who starts all of this chaos is an ugly, smelly mutt his mother picked up through a weird newspaper ad. His Mum named her "Fluffy", but Zane convinced her to call the undead dog "Fossil". What kind of teenage boy would have a dog named Fluffy, anyway?
This story is not only entertaining, but it addresses some teen issues and Zane's family problems. By the end of the book, Zane appreciates his mother more than he did at the beginning. We find that Zane has grown as a person and is somehow changed.
Clancy adds her own style of humor, and there are some hilarious moments in this book. Zane cannot get Fossil to stop biting people. The more people he bites, the more zombies that end up in Zane's backyard. What a problem! The surprise ending is really unusual.
This story is unique and fresh. I highly recommend My Zombie Dog to anyone who has a teen or to be read by any adult who is a child at heart or a zombie fan!
