I learned so much through this book about Malaysian culture, secret societies in Europe, and the habits and proclivities of Princes and Hadrahs in the United Arab Emirates! From the beginning, when Young's mother embarks on the Queen Mary, before his birth, to the boys' school on an island off of the west coast of England, I was drawn into worlds of culture, affluence, and traditions, and then I was invited to peek underneath it all. And I learned of yet another culture. A sub culture. Young's eye misses nothing. The details he unfurls so fabulously make this a classic.
Bernard has tendered a very delicate subject - Gender Identity & Sexuality with inspiration and honesty. His youthful innocence was woven with an acceptance and trust that is rare in a child in his situation. He embraced who he knew he was at an early age, accepted it, and grew with each experience as if it was a Christmas gift to be cherished. With a simplistic, straightforward writing style, Bernard’s intimate description of erotic love, both physical and spiritual was at once breathtaking, and inspirational. To be taught the Art of Love, remove jealousy, and accept people for who they are is a rare combination in a human being. Bernard’s genuineness shines through as a gift to us all and a reminder to be who we are. Please keep writing.
I was given this book by a friend and started it on a flight. The narrative started slowly but by page 25 I was hooked on this saga. Amazing insights into the Middle East. As I used to do business in the Middle East, I know in my heart this is a true story....patriarchal society with sexual practices that go way under the radar. Young's done a great job and I look forward to more copies of Volume 1, 2 and 3!

This is such a touching book, revealing not only the world of a young boy torn, at birth it would seem, as to his sexual orientation and his blooming awakening. But the book is more than touching. It will command you, shock you; you will applaud and sometimes be appalled as to how this boys life began. You will love him, you will fear for him, you will share his emotions, you will sometimes smile. I can hardly wait for the next book.

This is a fascinating, almost unbelievable, story but it is true. Every word, every amazing, mind-stretching scene. I know because I had the privilege of watching the memoir unfold and I was fascinated by this man's life. Shocking. Salacious. Heart-wrenching. True. I fell in love with young Young and once hooked, I bravely followed him into the strange reality that became his youth. I began to see another culture with very different eyes and a softer heart. This is 50 shades of grey" and 100 shades of lavender, pink, purple and brilliant.
Fascinating, exciting, sexy story. Interesting hidden view of the Arab world. This book is "very" personal and well written.
